  • Antiphonal - Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts

    Monday 18 November 2013 to Thursday 21 November 2013
    • Join us at Sanctuary Artspace for the opening of Antiphonal this Friday at 7pm.

There will be a talk by Professor Clare Lees, King’s College London, about the Antiphonal project, a performance by poets involved and a chance to experience the installation created by sound and interaction artist, Tom Schofield and visual Artist Kate Sweeney. A published pamphlet of the specially commissioned poems, Shadow Script, will be available to buy on the night.

    • This exhibition derives from an original commission to 12 poets to write a poem inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels. The poets involved are all based in the region and include: Gillian Allnutt, Linda Anderson, Peter Armstrong, Peter Bennet, Colette Bryce, Christy Ducker, Alistair Elliot, Cynthia Fuller, Linda France, Bill Herbert, Pippa Little and Sean O’Brien. The poems were then turned into a sound installation, entitled Antiphonal, by digital artist Tom Schofield, and sited in two iconic places: the newly renovated Lookout Tower on Lindisfarne and the crypt of St Aidan’s Church, Bamburgh. The installations ran through July and August.

The exhibition unites the sound installation by Tom Schofield, with films created by Kate Sweeney. The films are inspired by both sites and bring something of the flavour of the original sites into the exhibition, and maybe something new and original too.
